When was the last time you had one of those moments where reality far exceeded expectations? For me, it was when I was invited to photograph the Oklahoma Honor Flights’ September trip from OKC to Washington DC on September 11th and 12th. I have a profound respect for all of our military veterans, and when we’re talking about WWII vets, the respect and admiration can’t get any higher. Admittedly, I didn’t know much about this organization or the trip itself — just that I was to accompany the 104 veterans to Washington DC and photograph their visit to the WWII Memorial. I was in for a wonderful surprise!
Washington DC is an amazing place. The monuments and memorials create a photographer’s playground. Without a doubt, the biggest reward was getting to spend time with these incredible men and women. They’ve been called the Greatest Generation. Spend a day with anyone who has experienced what these individuals have and you’ll know why.
A huge thanks to the folks at Oklahoma Honor Flights and the many, many OKC volunteers for hosting such an impressive event. I’m looking forward to the Tulsa trip next week.
